The health topic is all over Social Media! Not only concerning food, but also sports, life etc. Things get labelled as vegan, low-carb, hclf? or whatever… But is this really healthy and how much do these discussions impact our lives? Today it has actually become quite fashionable to go on a detox diet, thanks to all our celebs who promote these so a lot! Using detox foods, colon cleaning herbs and a juice or soup diet a few days of the month is considered one of the best ways to stay in shape. Is there any truth behind these ideas? Do these detox diets really help? I cannot deny that I am also influenced by these (current) trends however I don’t want to give a judgement on others. I have been dealing with different food allergies and lactose intolerance since the age of 15. Especially in the beginning it has impacted my life severely but slowly I adapted my eating habits. Therfore, I try not to get influenced to much by these new lifestyle trends… what is actually really hard with all the Social Media influence.
When I started researching a bit more into the Detox topic I realized that rule #1 with detox:
A detox diet is NOT a weight loss diet
If you are considering to do a Detox, your main goal should not at all be in relation with weight but much more that you want to give your body a break from the regular stress and clean it from inside out. Your body is amazing! It deals with constant waves of harmful toxins from within and without, and it still keeps on working day in and day out. However, the body is not invincible though. I consider it only right that we give our bodies some help!
Toxins from Outside are everywhere…. We inhale them, we swallow them in our food and water and we also absorb them through our skin. But there are also other toxins thet our body creates itselfs. When we burn carbs or proteins or fats for energy, this process creates byproducts that the body must treat like toxins and eliminate. Burning proteins can be inefficient and toxic but even the cleanest burning carbs leave residues. So therefore our metabolism has to deal every day with lots of toxins. But also incomplete digestion might be from time to time an issue… You can eat the purest food in the world, but if you eat too much of it, or you don’t chew your food to begin the digestive process properly, you will create a lot of waste that must be taken care of. Some people just can’t properly digest gluten products, diary and grains. If they continue to eat large quantities of these foods like everyone else in our culture, they continuously deal with toxins and inflammation,
What Should You Do? The first step is to be aware of what you consume and then from time to time give your digestion system a break. This means it has easily digestible foods. Grains, protein and fat consumption are reduced. Fruits and vegetable are increased. Also no gluten products.
What are the benefits of a detox?

Generally you will be feeling more energetic. This would make sense because while you’re detoxing you’re stopping the influx of the things that caused you to need a detox in the first place. Supporting this process with a bit more activity is also great.
2. Rids the Body of Any Excess Waste
The biggest thing that detoxing helps with is allowing the body to rid itself of any excess waste it’s been storing.
3. Stronger Immune System
When you detox the body you free up your organs to function the way they should. This helps to give your immune system a boost since you’ll be able to absorb nutrients better, including Vitamin C.

Your skin is your largest organ, so it only makes sense that it would show positive results from a detox program. You may find that your skin itches or gets patchy before clearing up, but this is part of the process and is a sign that you’re on the right track with your program.

The constant barrage of toxins that the body has to deal with is one contributing factor to the aging process. By reducing the amount of free radical damage done to the body, you’re going to see not only short term benefits, but also long term benefits in an increased longevity. When you finish your detox program, it’s very important not to go right back to the lifestyle that was causing the toxicity. Sticking to a improved diet and getting daily activity are great ways to make sure that you feel good each moment of your life

Now that’s a win-win! I have been offered to test the Juices Detox program from fit’n’tasty and as I was struggling with digestion issues lately this was a very welcome idea. Even better for my Online Shopping preferences was that the Juices were delivered in a cooled box directly to my doorstep. However, as mentioned above my intention was not at all to loose weight or actually even as the regular program suggested – to replace most of the meals with juices – but a break from daily stress. In the beginner programm (First Date) they recommend to still have one meal a day and if you are hungry of course you are allowed to snack. I, for my ‘programme’ chose NOT to leave out any of my meals but instead adding the juices to my meals. I mainly watched out to eat fresh fruits and vegetables and easy to digest kind of foods and still get a benefit added from the juices.
How was my First Date? I definitely benefitted from more energy and a better feeling in general. And hopefully I was able to wash out a lot of the toxins. But honestly speaking – I could never do a full detox without food. But hey, I think what is best about it: you can choose what fits Your needs and integrate it into you routine 🙂
